Melanie Arellano

Therapist Trainee (Pre-Licensed)

About Me

I approach therapy from a place of compassion, presence, and deep respect for each person’s story. My work is rooted in an integrative, trauma-informed framework that combines humanistic and person-centered care with attachment-based and experiential approaches. I believe that healing begins in a space where you feel safe, seen, and truly heard—and I strive to create that kind of environment for every client I work with.

I draw from modalities such as EMDR, Somatic Therapy, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), and psychodynamic approaches, allowing me to gently tailor therapy to each individual’s needs. I also consider the larger systems we are part of—family, relationships, and environment—recognizing how these experiences shape the way we move through the world. My goal is to support clients not only in understanding their experiences, but in reconnecting with their inner strength and building meaningful, lasting change.

I specialize in working with trauma, including childhood and relational trauma, as well as individuals navigating recovery, life transitions, and emotional challenges. I view healing as a holistic process—one that involves the mind, body, and spirit. Together, we move at a pace that feels right for you, creating space for both reflection and growth.

My personal journey has deeply shaped the way I show up in this work. Growing up in a traumatic environment and overcoming experiences of childhood and domestic abuse, along with living in long-term recovery, has given me a profound understanding of both pain and resilience. I carry this with me in a quiet, intentional way—meeting each client with empathy, curiosity, and respect for the courage it takes to heal. I believe that even in the most difficult experiences, there is the potential for strength, meaning, and transformation.

Spirituality and faith are meaningful parts of my life and gently inform my approach to therapy. I see healing as something deeply personal—sometimes even sacred—and I honor whatever that looks like for each individual. Whether it’s through connection, reflection, or simply being present, I support clients in finding their own sense of meaning and hope.

I am committed to creating a space that is inclusive, culturally aware, and grounded in respect for all identities and lived experiences. Every person who walks into therapy carries a unique story, and I consider it a privilege to be trusted with that.

Caring for myself has also become an important part of the work I do. Having experienced burnout, I’ve learned that self-care is not something extra—it’s essential. I find grounding and joy in simple, meaningful moments—whether it’s a spa day with close friends, spending time with my significant other, playing and laughing with my grandkids, or being around animals, especially horses. These moments remind me of the importance of connection, balance, and slowing down, and they allow me to show up more fully for the people I support.

At the heart of my work is the belief that healing is possible, that growth can happen in even the most tender places, and that you don’t have to go through it alone. I’m here to walk alongside you—at your pace—as you move toward a life that feels more grounded, connected, and whole.
